Story Recipe one
As part of this Guest House Stories blog, I will sharing some delicious recipes that are favorites in my home. Some of them have been passed down through family, others from friends, and even some I have stumbled upon online and altered to fit my personal tastes. A few of them will be healthy, but more importantly, all of them will be delicious.
First up in our Story Recipe series is a family favorite and easy snack recipe in my household. The recipe comes from my grandmother originally and I have lots of memories of my mother making these consistently growing up and my father sitting on his chair watching football and munching loudly on them ha! Seasoned pretzels require very few ingredients, they are quick and easy to make, and they make great to go snacks for busy households.
My grandmother typically made them using the thick hard snyder’s pretzels. If you are able to get your hand’s on those I would recommend them. You just break the pretzels inside the bag to make them into smaller pieces. I have a hard time finding these in South Carolina so I have started to substitute with the mini twist pretzels. If you use these, I would recommend using an entire bag as it does help with allowing the seasoning mix to not be as strong.
Ingredients needed:
1-1.5 bags of pretzels
1 packet of hidden valley ranch dressing mix
3/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
1 tsp garlic salt (reduce this to a 1/2 tsp if you do not like a lot of salt)
1 tsp dill weed seasoning
You will need an extra large baking sheet. The bigger the better so that you can evenly spread out the pretzels.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Once you’ve evenly spread the seasoning mix over the pretzels, place the pretzels in the oven for 1 hour. You will need to remove them every 15 minutes to toss them so that the seasoning gets spread over all of the pretzels. I typically just set my timer for 15 minutes and repeat 4 times. Remove after the full hour is up and let cool. Enjoy!
