To be honest, I had a completely different post scheduled for today but instead I decided to scrap it. Today I am writing to you for the comfort of my sofa. My girls are napping and my husband is in the garage so for the first time this weekend, I am alone. My how I relish this time. It is no surprise that I love people and my family. There is absolutely no way that I could work by myself for 5 days a week, nor do I want to. However, especially after having my girls, getting 30 minutes to myself is like a sweet, succulent gift. My mother used to joke that she could never send me to time out when I was a kid in my room because it wasn’t really punishment. I loved being in there by myself with the door shut reading a book or using my imagination to play. Now, as an adult, most days I don’t even get to shower without my husband or daughters interrupting.

So, I’d like to talk to you about one of my favorite things to do when I do get just a little bit of “me” time. If you’ve followed the Guest House Studio on Instagram for awhile then chances are you have seen me post on stories once or twice about books that I was reading and what I thought of them. I love to read. People say to me all the time “I don’t know how you have time to read.” Reading is my Netflix. It’s my hour of tv before bed for most people. It allows me to distract my mind from whatever happened during the day and often times, I can not even fall asleep without it. Otherwise my brain is constantly thinking about my very, VERY long to do list. In a world that is consumed by digital media I would like to encourage you to pick up a book and turn off your phone. Step away from social media, the news and just read.

We have some really exciting things coming forward in the next few months but one of my goals for this year was to try and engage with my online and local community on more than just Design. So, welcome to our first ever, Guest House Book Club! I have hand picked 4 books that I read last year and enjoyed. I am encouraging you to read one (or all of them) this spring. I look forward to hosting and engaging more with my community in the future so sign up for our Book Club list below and stay in the know for upcoming events and book insights!
